October 26 th, 27 th, 28 th Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona hosted the ninth and final round of the 2007 World Series by Renault Championship
Friday 26 th, Free Practice
Friday free practice consisted of two 45 minute test sessions with the first 45 minutes run in damp conditions. “The first session was quite good for me, I like the wet conditions and the track never dried out so I was able to get a good setup for my car, finishing the session in 8 th. I also had to re-learn part of the circuit as there is a new chicane before the last corner.” Commented Clivio, “The track had dried out for the second session so we planned to use a new set of tyres to see how the car would behave. On my second lap with the tyres I had a massive lock up at the rear going into the hairpin half way through the lap, then at the end of the pit straight I touched the brakes and had another massive lock up with the front brakes, the front of the car actually touched the tarmac! This sent me straight into the barriers and destroyed the front left corner of the car. I am disappointed we had a brake problem as I was 9/10’s quicker than my previous lap and the car felt good. We had a good car for the dry and the wet for the weekend.”
Saturday 27 th, Qualifying
“The track was wet again for qualifying so thought I would do well as I am happy with the wet conditions. I had a new set of wets for the session and within 3 to 4 laps I was chipping away at my lap times moving up to P3.” Said Clivio, “then going into a quick corner I lost the rear and slid into the barriers bending my rear suspension and was not able to rejoin the track. My session was over. I was really disappointed with myself as it was a silly mistake in wet conditions, the car felt good and it has cost me the weekend.”
Saturday 27 th, Race 1
“I had to start the race from 28 th and I knew it was going to be a difficult race, I made a safe start to avoid any accident and within the first lap I overtook 5 cars and then tried to get into a good rhythm but I was struggling on my first set of tyres with a lot of over-steer. So we pitted on lap 10 and just changed the rear tyres and the car felt a lot better. My lap times were competitive and I was catching up with other cars and moved up to P17 from P25 after the pit stop. Unfortunately there were no yellow flags or safety car periods so I could not catch up with the front runners so I finished 17 th.”
Sunday 28 th, Race 2
“For the last race I started on new tyres and decided to go for it. I had a really good start from 17 th on the grid but going into the first corner one car pushed another car in front of me, blocking me! “Said Clivio, “on my left I had the gravel trap, in front of me I had a car blocking me and on my right all the other cars were passing me, I went into the corner in P14 and left the corner P28! I knew this race was going to be a mission impossible to get to P10 and score some points so I pushed as hard as I could and made my way forward.”
”Moving into P16 the car in front of me ran wide going into the chicane near the end of the lap so I decided to make the move to go through on the inside but he suddenly cut back inside on me and damaged my front wing. I had to go into the pits and change my front wing but by the time I got back onto the track I was a lap down. All I could do now was push hard and try for lap times. I finished in P23 and was quite relieved my weekend was over.”
“I would like to thank the team and everyone who has supported me throughout this season and I now look forward to 2008 and be ready for the new challenges that lie ahead of me.”
